To any and all who wind up here, read this first.
Once upon a time, I started up a blog (a different blog) with the intention of writing reviews for video games. At the time, it was motivation to play through my enormous backlog of games I had accrued on Steam (my library is sitting at 652 games and that is just on Steam). It worked, for a while. I thought maybe I’d get noticed and I’d be able to get paid for my reviewing efforts some how. Long story short, the reviews started to feel like work, I wasn’t getting paid for it, and it seriously turned me off to continuing with my endeavors.
This blog here, Single Player Surtr, is reviews I’m writing about games that I play that I enjoy. You won’t find a negative review on here because, writing takes time. Writing about something I don’t like (especially when it has little to no bearing on the overall lifespan and/or popularity of said thing) is waste of my time and doesn’t make me feel any better. Writing a negative review feels like work and no one is paying me to do it, so I’m not going to.
First and foremost, I’m writing reviews again because I love writing. I also love games and have ever since playing NES and SNES as a kid. Mega Man and Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts drove me wild when I was younger and games have only gotten bigger and better since then. It’s all uphill from here, man.
So, at the end of the day, this blog is going to be a tribute to games that I love; be they console games or PC games, new games or old games. I’m planning on writing reviews and going into more detail on some analysis-esque posts about games that I am particularly smitten with.
An important thing to know about me going forward is that I am not a very competitive person. I tend to shy away from competitive multiplayer games (with a few exceptions) and the main reason why is that, the majority of the time, they are stressful, aggravating, and the communities become incredibly toxic. Don’t expect to see a lot about multiplayer games on here. There will be some, but the vast majority of content that I’ll be putting up here will be about single player games (as the title of the blog would suggest).
If you agree with the things I have to say, cool. If not, cool. I’m just here to write, but I hope that anyone who reads this can enjoy it too.
